Core Facility
The biomaterials and inhaled particles platform at the Centre for Biomedical and Healthcare Engineering of Mines Saint-Étienne focuses on the study of aerosols and inhaled particles, with a particular emphasis on their physico-chemical characterization and their interactions with biological systems. Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, it allows for the analysis of aerosol deposits, the evaluation of the biological activity of nanoparticles, and the testing of the efficacy of medical devices related to aerosol therapy.
The platform’s activities are organized around two main axes.
Toxicity
Use of specialized laboratories (nano and cell culture), advanced techniques for physico-chemical characterization of particles, toxicology tests, and air/liquid interface exposure systems to assess their biological impacts.
Aerosols
Metrology of inhaled particles and development of anatomical models for the study of aerosol deposits in the respiratory tract.
Head of the biomaterials and inhaled particles platform.
