A programme of excellence bridging engineering and health
A unique post-baccalaureate programme
Do you enjoy science, biology, technology, or medicine, but are still unsure about your path?
The Preparatory and Diploma Programme in Engineering and Health (PDIS) at Mines Saint-Étienne offers you the best of both worlds.
Over two years, you will follow a programme at the intersection of engineering and health, underpinned by the academic and scientific excellence of Mines Saint-Étienne and Jean Monnet University.
This selective programme offers a demanding and degree-awarding alternative to preparatory classes and medical studies, designed for curious and ambitious baccalaureate holders.
Why choose the PDIS?
By joining the PDIS, you become part of a unique and selective programme built on three strong principles:
1️⃣ Scientific excellence: solid teaching in mathematics, physics, engineering sciences, and biology.
2️⃣ Openness and versatility: a balance between scientific knowledge, transversal skills, and a culture of care.
3️⃣ Personalised support: individual mentoring and concrete projects throughout the curriculum.
Preparatory AND Diploma Programme
🎯 At the end of these two years, you will obtain two recognised degrees:
- the PDIS institutional diploma from Mines Saint-Étienne,
- and the “Sciences for Health” Bachelor’s degree from Jean Monnet University (nota bene: this bachelor’s degree is not a Health Access Bachelor’s degree – LASS)
A Double Degree, Open Choices
At the end of the two years, you can pursue:
- an engineering programme (Mines Saint-Étienne, Institut Mines-Télécom, Télécom Saint-Étienne…),
- or a health curriculum (medicine, pharmacy, midwifery, professional bachelor’s degree, health master’s degrees…).
🎓 6 places are reserved each year for PDIS students in 2nd year medicine (LAS2/LAS3).
Modern and Supervised Pedagogy
The training is based on:
- solid disciplinary teaching,
- integrated projects linking health and engineering,
- sports and language activities,
- attentive supervision by research-professors from both institutions.
📍 Classes take place 4 days a week on the Campus Santé Innovations in Saint-Étienne, near the University Hospital and research laboratories, and 1 day at the historic site of the Mines Saint-Étienne school, at 158 cours Fauriel.
Mines Saint-Étienne
A pioneer in health engineering for over 20 years, Mines Saint-Étienne has identified the close links between health and advanced technologies.
Its Centre for Biomedical and Healthcare Engineering (CIS) is dedicated to improving health through engineering and science.
It has notably conducted research in the fields of biomechanics, biomaterials, health systems engineering, and inhaled particle biology, in close collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine of Jean Monnet University and the Saint-Étienne University Hospital, all three located on the same site.
Furthermore, Mines Saint-Étienne has for many years offered double degrees: pharmacist engineer, doctor engineer, and since the start of the 2024 academic year, dentist engineer, which attest to this expertise.
