Become a key player in building energy renovation
The building sector accounts for a major share of energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Achieving carbon neutrality objectives inevitably requires improving the energy performance of the existing building stock.
However, renovating a building is not just about changing equipment or adding insulation: it involves dealing with a highly diverse building stock, multiple uses, demanding regulatory constraints, and a multitude of stakeholders. Effective renovation therefore requires new profiles capable of managing, coordinating, and securing these projects in all their dimensions.
The Advance Master® program Expert in Energy Efficiency in Building Renovation specifically trains these profiles: energy efficiency managers capable of designing, evaluating, and leading ambitious and realistic renovation projects, while integrating technical, economic, environmental, and social aspects.
Program Objectives
- Deeply understand existing buildings: building typologies, architectural characteristics, pathologies, regulations, and labels.
- Master technical fundamentals: building thermal dynamics, dynamic simulation, air quality, air permeability, HVAC systems, lighting, RES.
- Design and manage high-performance renovation projects: energy and environmental audits, work scenarios, techno-economic optimization.
- Integrate economic, environmental, and social challenges: life cycle analysis, global cost, social acceptability, energy performance contracts (EPC/GPC).
- Manage complex projects involving design offices, companies, social landlords, operators, local authorities, architects…
Upon completion of the program, you will be ready to act as an expert and coordinator of high-performance energy renovation projects.
Why choose the MS-EERB training program?
1. A program at the heart of the energy transition
- Focused on the renovation of existing buildings, where the main potential for energy savings lies.
- Aligned with national and European challenges (carbon neutrality, energy sobriety, renovation plan).
- In direct connection with industry stakeholders: design offices, landlords, construction companies, energy providers, local authorities.
2. A multidisciplinary and highly operational approach
- Modules covering:
- building structure, thermal dynamics, hygrometry, technical systems, RES, BMS/BAS,
- life cycle analysis, global cost, social dimension, EPC, BIM,
- project management, capstone project, and professional thesis.
- Active learning: case studies, real audits, simulations, site visits, collective project.
3. Strong professionalization through work-study programs
- Academics alternating between school and company: student status (company assignment) or employee status (apprenticeship, professional contract, continuing education).
- 6-month professional thesis on a concrete renovation issue.
- Real-world experience in design offices, construction companies, energy providers, landlords, or local authorities.
4. Academic and professional recognition
- Advance Master Academics labeled by the Conférence des Grandes Écoles.
- Certification registered with the RNCP (level 7).
- Program delivered by Mines Saint-Étienne, a school of the Institut Mines-Télécom, recognized for its expertise in energy, environment, and industry.
Who is it for?
This programme is intended for:
- Master’s level (Bac+5) graduates, whether recent or changing careers;
- to candidates with a Master’s degree (Year 1) and at least 3 years of professional experience;
- experienced professionals looking to progress.
The Program Director’s Vision
Training experts capable of transforming the existing building stock
“The energy renovation of buildings is an essential lever for achieving our climate objectives. However, it can only succeed with professionals capable of understanding the built environment, mastering its complexity, coordinating stakeholders, and securing long-term performance.
The training was designed to meet this requirement: you will develop a global vision of renovation projects, solid technical skills, and a genuine ability to manage ambitious operations, serving the energy transition.”
