Mines Saint-Étienne’s international partnerships are designed to meet the School’s major strategic objectives:

  • Strengthening the impact of education and research through high-level collaborations, including double degree programmes and applied research projects.
  • Promoting European and universal values: equality, inclusion, citizenship, and sustainability.
  • Attracting international students and researchers to foster a multicultural academic environment, with 30% international students in the cohorts and 50% international PhD students.

Partnership Development Areas

Comprehensive and Strategic Partnerships

The School establishes comprehensive partnerships with world-class universities for collaborations in education, research, and innovation. These partnerships cover student exchanges, double degrees, research, and industrial relations, for example with:

  • Politecnico di Torino (Italy)
  • Technische Universität Wien (Austria – T.I.M.E. Association double degree)

Priority Countries for Development

In line with its European strategy, aligned with the Erasmus 2021-2027 programme, Mines Saint-Étienne has defined priority development areas in Europe and beyond:

  • Europe: Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, Nordic and Baltic countries;
  • North America: Canada, United States;
  • Asia: South Korea, Japan, Vietnam;
  • Africa and the Mediterranean basin: South Africa, Morocco, Lebanon;
  • Latin America: Brazil (in collaboration with IMT), Colombia, Chile…

These targeted partnerships enhance the School’s diversity and academic excellence by welcoming students from these regions and encouraging the mobility of its own students to exceptional institutions.

Double Degree Programmes and Industrial Cooperation

Double degree programmes allow students to obtain two degrees, one from Mines Saint-Étienne and one from an international partner university, strengthening their academic and professional skills.

Erasmus+ Partnerships and European Projects

As an active member of Erasmus+ (the European Union’s education pillar) and Horizon Europe (the EU’s research pillar), Mines Saint-Étienne is involved in joint research and training projects. Since 2023, the School has been a member of the EULiST European University within the framework of Erasmus+, and has obtained Erasmus Mundus funding for the creation of joint master’s programmes with leading European partners.

International Joint PhD Supervision

International co-supervision of theses is an academic cooperation mechanism between two institutions located in two different countries. It allows a doctoral student to complete their thesis under the supervision of two research directors from these two partner institutions. This type of programme aims to promote the international mobility of researchers, collaboration between two research laboratories, and the enrichment of research work.
