An excellence programme at the heart of the energy and digital transition

The Master GPIA trains engineers and experts capable of understanding, modeling, and optimizing industrial processes, while integrating modern approaches in artificial intelligence, advanced simulation, and data analysis.

Integrated into the Process Engineering and Bio-Processes track at Claude Bernard Lyon 1 University, the Master is directly supported by the Georges Friedel Laboratory (LGF – UMR CNRS 5307). This scientific environment of excellence ensures complete immersion in research and innovation, preparing our graduates to address the complex challenges of the energy, transformation, and environmental industries.

Entry level: M1 / M2
Exit level: Bac +5 / Master’s Degree
Duration: 1 / 2 years
60 ECTS
Location: Saint-Étienne Campus
100 % : English language

Programme objectives

  • Master the fundamentals of process engineering
(heat and mass transfer, kinetics, modeling, thermodynamics)
  • Learn to simulate and optimize complex processes
  • Develop expertise in numerical methods, modeling, and instrumentation
  • Understand AI approaches applied to processes
(machine learning, pattern recognition, advanced statistics)
  • Prepare students for careers in industry or research (PhD)

Why choose the Master GPIA?

  • A programme taught in English, open to international students
  • A programme supported by CNRS and the technological platforms of Mines Saint-Étienne
  • A dual competence: industrial processes + artificial intelligence
  • A strong focus on the energy, environment, processes & materials sectors
  • Possibility to pursue a PhD, in France or abroad
  • 2 tracks to choose from in M2:
    • Process Engineering Focus
    • Artificial Intelligence Focus
