To promote a diverse and inclusive environment, it is essential to implement programmes and initiatives that encourage the participation of every individual.

Gender Equality Commission

Since 2013, Mines Saint-Étienne has been a signatory of the Gender Equality Charter for higher education and research institutions, affirming its commitment to equality. Each year, the school organises awareness and training sessions for staff and students, along with discussion forums to promote an inclusive and respectful environment.

In 2016, this commitment was further strengthened with the creation of the Gender Equality Commission, which plays a central role in implementing and expanding equality initiatives within the institution. Each year, the commission develops and launches new actions, engaging the academic community and integrating gender equality issues into all aspects of the school.

Mines Saint-Étienne also actively disseminates information on gender equality initiatives at local, regional, and national levels. The school monitors trends and HR developments through the annual barometer of the Conférence des Grandes Écoles (CGE) and is actively involved in several dedicated networks, including CGE and CDEFI.

Our Commitments

La Rotonde: Promoting Equality and Diversity in Science

Through its Centre for Scientific, Technical, and Industrial Culture (CCSTI) – La Rotonde, Mines Saint-Étienne is actively engaged in promoting gender equality in science and culture. La Rotonde upholds inclusive values by developing stereotype-free communication and activities, with the following objectives:

  • Encouraging collective reflection
By designing projects that raise awareness of gender equality issues, improving its own practices, and contributing to societal change through the promotion of scientific culture.Engager une réflexion collective
  • Engaging diverse audiences
Encouraging active participation in science, technology, and industry outreach activities.
  • Fostering diversity
Ensuring representation and inclusivity in publications and events, allowing everyone to see themselves reflected in science.
  • Raising awareness among all audiences
From children to professionals, all La Rotonde visitors are educated about unconscious biases, stereotypes, and their consequences, promoting collective awareness.
  • Empowering all voices
Providing a platform for free expression and encouraging active participation in scientific events.
  • Highlighting diverse scientific figures
Showcasing scientists of all genders and backgrounds across various disciplines, contributing to research and innovation.
  • Example of a project
To this end, Science for All offers high school girls the opportunity to immerse themselves in an enriching scientific journey. Thanks to a mentoring programme, they discover the world of higher education, explore scientific fields and careers, and interact with committed female professionals. This unique experience aims to provide them with the tools to envision their place in science and encourage them to pursue studies in these fields.

By upholding these commitments, La Rotonde aspires to be a catalyst for change, working towards a more inclusive and equitable society where everyone has a place in science.

Womines Association: Supporting Women in Engineering

Founded in 2011, the Womines Association is dedicated to supporting and promoting women in engineering, a field where they remain underrepresented both at Mines Saint-Étienne and in the professional world. Since its inception, Womines has worked to enhance the role of women in engineering by facilitating their integration and success.

The association has built partnerships to support awareness, training, and professional opportunities with engaged organisations, including AISPAS, Elles Bougent, and EGAE.

Since 2022, Womines has expanded its focus on gender equality, incorporating issues related to gender-based and sexual violence (GBSV), discrimination, and harassment.

Ambassadors Programme

The Ambassadrices programme, led by Institut Mines-Télécom and Fondation Mines-Télécom, aims to raise awareness among young girls about studies and careers in engineering. Through educational and engaging activities, it highlights the inspiring paths of young female students, to demonstrate the diversity and accessibility of these professions.

This initiative is divided into two components, targeting: Primary & middle school students (CM2 – 3e); High school students (lycéennes).
By showcasing diverse career paths and accessible opportunities in engineering, this programme aims to broaden young girls’ perspectives and encourage them to consider STEM fields.

Cpas1option

Since 2023, the school has been a signatory to the Cpas1option charter, a national initiative to promote prevention in student party environments. The charter is committed to preventing risky behavior, notably by combating sexist and sexual violence, while raising awareness of responsible and respectful practices.

By adopting this approach, the school affirms its commitment to creating a safe and inclusive environment for its students, through regular awareness-raising actions and prevention campaigns.
