Supported, tailored mobility
Everything is put in place to ensure that each student can complete a stay with a high-level partner, in line with their academic results and career plan.
Transparency The allocation procedure is rigorous and is presented to you from the 1st term of your 1st year.
Expertise You are supported by an experienced and attentive team to help you make the most of your experience.
Resources All dedicated presentations are continuously updated and available on e-campus, our intranet.
Note for international students Inbound mobility students wishing to undertake an outbound stay (mobility within mobility) must handle their visa formalities independently (destination country and renewal of the French VLS-TS), without intervention from the School.
Our mobility pathways
Academic exchanges: full immersion
Go abroad for a semester or a full year from your 2nd year. These exchanges allow you to discover new teaching methods and build an international network.
In Europe Thanks to the Erasmus+ programme, your ECTS credits are automatically transferred.
Outside Europe Through our global bilateral agreements, with credit recognition agreed in advance.
Double degrees: international excellence
Available in the 3rd year, these pathways last up to 4 semesters (2 semesters of the 3rd year + 2 additional semesters). They enable you to obtain a prestigious double qualification, recognised both in France and abroad.
📍 Our partners
Our cooperation map is constantly evolving to offer you the best academic destinations.
Mines Saint-Étienne provides personalised support to each student before, during, and after their mobility. Because equal access is a priority, the School implements a proactive scholarship policy to support your projects.
Erasmus+ scholarships For exchanges with Erasmus partners (valid inter institutional agreement), students will receive a mobility grant. Inclusion top-up: additional support is provided for CROUS scholarship students (levels 6 or 7), as well as for students with disabilities or a long-term condition (ALD).
Mobility scholarships from the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region This support is intended for students from the Saint-Étienne campus going to destinations outside Erasmus/outside Europe. Please note: students from the Aix-Marseille Provence campus are not eligible for this specific scheme.
⚠️ Important note on AMI scholarships: As Mines Saint-Étienne is under the supervision of the Ministry of Industry (and not the Ministry of Higher Education), our students are not eligible for AMI scholarships. We offset this specific situation with personalised support towards other available funding.
Testimonials from Students Who Participated in an Exchange or Double Degree
To provide a concrete overview of the impact of these programmes, here are a few testimonials from students who took part in an exchange or a double degree with Mines Saint-Étienne.
By the time I graduate, I will have lived abroad for two and a half years! Like many of my classmates, I took advantage of an immersion as an international student from my 2nd year. Everything is a discovery: the culture, the courses, daily life… Through discussions with Erasmus students and Madrid locals, local habits, and walks around the city, I gradually became familiar with the Spanish capital, which became my home for a semester. This experience allowed me to develop much more than my language skills; it helped me grow personally. After Spain, I wanted to continue the adventure in Europe: I applied for a double degree at the Technical University of Vienna, in Austria. A new start awaits me at the beginning of the academic year, with new experiences to live…

I didn’t hesitate for a moment to seize the opportunity to spend a semester abroad. I had this desire to discover new cultures, to step out of my comfort zone, while developing my language skills and adaptability. And the experience lived up to my expectations: I had unforgettable moments, met inspiring people, and even fulfilled a dream by traveling to Patagonia. This semester was extremely enriching, both intellectually and personally, and helped me better define my areas of specialization upon my return to France.
Integration at the university was facilitated by my Chilean tutor, who accompanied me from my arrival to help me discover Santiago. I was lucky enough to live with a Chilean family, with whom I shared strong moments and learned to cook local specialties. This experience was an incredible opportunity, and the bonds forged there will remain etched in my memory.

My trip to Japan offered me unforgettable experiences, such as attending lectures given by experts from JAXA, the Japanese space agency. Being in direct contact with Japanese people, through my laboratory work and travels, allowed me to discover their deep respect for others and gave me valuable perspective on my own way of interacting. I particularly appreciated the independence and freedom offered by my schedule, which allowed me to develop greater autonomy. This experience helped me overcome the fear of the unknown and approach unexpected situations with more serenity. I am now heading to Canada for a double degree with reinforced confidence.
