X-ray diffraction
The X-ray Diffraction technological platform provides equipment and expertise dedicated to the structural characterization of materials. It enables the analysis of material organization, identification of present phases, and access to detailed information on mechanical state and microstructure, from bulk to thin films.
Model Materials and Structures
Christophe MEUNIER
A platform dedicated to the manufacturing and characterization of model materials to better understand the mechanisms underlying processing techniques. It brings together experimental devices covering powder metallurgy, microwave sintering, resin infusion, structural (bio-)composites, model metals and alloys, functional nanocomposites, and surface treatments.
Mechanical Testing and Instrumentation
The Computer Science and Numerical Simulations (ISN) platform centralizes the computing and modeling resources of the SMS center to facilitate the study of materials and processes: it provides a high-performance computing cluster (parallel computing and GPU), pre/post-processing and remote visualization tools, simulation capabilities in mechanics, materials, and multiphysics couplings, as well as data processing and artificial intelligence resources, constituting an advanced modeling environment serving innovation in materials science.
Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM)
A platform dedicated to additive manufacturing by wire arc deposition, a technology particularly suited for producing large metallic parts. It enables the production of full-scale industrial functional prototypes, conducts R&D work, and supports technology transfer to companies.
Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) Additive Manufacturing
A platform dedicated to additive manufacturing of metallic parts by laser powder bed fusion. It relies on a set of manufacturing and characterization resources distributed across several sites in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, covering key stages from process development to part and material qualification.

Multiphysics Characterization of Microstructures and Surface Properties (CMS)
A platform offering electron microscopy, chemical, and crystallographic analysis tools for fine characterization of materials.
