The Centre for Chemical Engineering (SPIN) fosters a dynamic ecosystem built on strategic global partnerships and leading industrial collaborations. These projects aim to address the major challenges of the energy transition and sustainable engineering.
International Chairs & Energy of the Future
The SPIN Centre leads high-level research programmes for the future of energy resources.
- “Energy Resources” Chair (2025–2030)
Building on the International Chair in Petroleum Economics (2019–2024), this ambitious programme is being reinvented to incorporate the challenges of decarbonised energy and sustainable resource management.- Key partners
Colorado School of Mines (United States) and the Federal University of Technology – Paraná (Brazil).
- Key partners
Collaborative Research & Joint Laboratories
The Centre’s expertise is shared internationally and pooled through long-term structures with academic institutions and industrial leaders.
- Joint Laboratory with HUMG
In collaboration with Hanoi University of Mining and Geology (Vietnam), this joint laboratory strengthens our scientific exchanges and research capabilities on mineral resources and geological processes. - Orano Strategic Partnership:
A LabCom framework agreement links the SPIN Centre with Orano, a major player in the nuclear fuel cycle. This partnership aims to develop innovative process engineering solutions for the treatment and valorisation of materials.
European Network of Excellence
The SPIN Centre is strengthening its ties with Europe’s leading technical universities, promoting mobility and high-level training.
- Strengthened partnerships with TU Munich and Politecnico di Torino
- Erasmus mobility
Increasing student flows between Saint-Étienne, Germany and Italy. - Jointly supervised doctorates (PhD)
Development of international theses enabling the researchers of tomorrow to benefit from dual European expertise.
