The living lab for innovation in health and autonomy
The MedTechLab is a living lab dedicated to the experimentation, co-creation and evaluation of innovative solutions in health and autonomy. It was created by AÉSIO Santé, AÉSIO Mutuelle and Mines Saint-Étienne, and is located at the Campus Innovation Santé in Saint-Priest-en-Jarez.
A true interface between research, technological innovation, and real-world use, MedTechLab® supports project leaders—industry players, startups, researchers, healthcare professionals, and institutions—in designing, testing, and validating products and services that integrate new technologies to serve people.
A collaborative ecosystem serving innovation in health
MedTechLab is part of a structured partnership ecosystem, bringing together in particular:

This consortium structure makes it possible to combine scientific, medical, technological, and social expertise, and to support projects throughout their entire development cycle.
A unique experimentation environment
MedTechLab has a smart apartment, designed as an instrumented real-life living environment, enabling:
- detailed observation of uses and interactions between users and technologies,
- the conduct of tests under controlled conditions, then in real-world environments,
- the evaluation of digital solutions, medical devices, connected objects, AI, or innovative services.
The experiments can be complemented by virtual reality, simulation, monitoring, and modelling tools, in connection with the local ecosystem.
Experimentation Hub – France 2030
Since January 2024, MedTechLab has been officially recognised as a Third Place for Experimentation (TLE) as part of the national acceleration strategy “Digital Health” under the France 2030 plan.
This recognition confirms its structuring role in the development, evaluation, and scaling up of innovative digital solutions for the health and autonomy sector.
An interdisciplinary, use-centred approach
MedTechLab relies on an integrated methodology, combining:
- medical and clinical sciences,
- engineering and digital sciences,
- human and social sciences,
- user-centred design approaches and collective intelligence.
Projects are supported progressively, from exploring needs through to impact assessment and preparation for market launch.
