University Restaurants

The university restaurants, managed by the CROUS of Lyon, are catering spaces dedicated to students in Saint-Étienne, offering balanced, accessible, and varied meals near the École des Mines campus. The 6-point menu consists of a wide choice of starters, main courses, cheeses, and desserts. A vegetarian option is offered daily.

Located near the Jean Monnet University campus and easily accessible from the Mines Saint-Étienne campus, the restaurant is 900 m from the Student House (12 minutes on foot) and is served by several public transport lines.

Located in the city center, on the Tréfilerie campus of Jean Monnet University, come and have a complete meal at the Tréfilerie restaurant. Accessible in 10 minutes by bus or tram.

The Maison des Élèves: A Place for Social Interaction

Residents of the Maison des Élèves (ME) have access to a dining area and communal kitchen:

  • Equipped kitchen on each floor for preparing meals,
  • ME Cafeteria, open to all students, offering hot meals, snacks, drinks, and breakfast,
  • Shared meals and festive events regularly organized by ME clubs.

The ME promotes community life and autonomy, while remaining a warm and friendly place.


Responsible and Sustainable Dining

Mines Saint-Étienne and the CROUS are committed to responsible food practices:

  • use of local and seasonal products,
  • development of short supply chains,
  • reduction of food waste,
  • selective sorting and valorization of biowaste,
  • promotion of eco-responsibility in collective catering.

Students are also involved in these initiatives through sustainable projects and initiatives led by the school’s associations.


Food Banks

To combat food insecurity, Mines Saint-Étienne has opened free solidarity grocery stores on its campuses in Saint-Étienne and Aix-Marseille-Provence. These stores offer quality essential products (rice, pasta, canned goods, hygiene products) to students in need.

  • The Saint-Étienne solidarity grocery store “Off Course(s)” is run by two volunteers, including a staff member and a student. It is located on the School premises and opens on Mondays from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM.
