The ISMIN engineering Programme is fully integrated into an interconnected and multicultural world.
International experience is not an option; it is a pillar of the Programme.

A School Open to the World

The Aix-Marseille-Provence campus welcomes students, researchers, and faculty from all five continents each year. This diversity contributes to a rich, cosmopolitan, and stimulating learning environment.
The objective is for every ISMIN student to have at least one significant international experience, whether it be:

  • an international company internship,
  • an academic exchange at a partner university,
  • or a double degree with an institution of excellence.

International Experiences Integrated into the Curriculum

International experience is an integral part of the ISMIN programme.
Every student must complete a minimum of three consecutive months abroad, in one of the following forms:

  • Final year internship (S10) in an international company,
  • Academic semester (S9) at a partner university,
  • Double degree in the 3rd year with an institution in France or abroad,
  • International collaborative project within the framework of educational partnerships.

These experiences allow students to:

  • strengthen their autonomy and adaptability,
  • improve their foreign language proficiency,
  • develop their intercultural understanding,
  • and enhance their international profile with recruiters.

Go on an internship or exchange

The International Relations Office supports students at every stage of their mobility:

  • choice of destination according to career plans,
  • assistance with application file preparation,
  • administrative and logistical procedures (visa, accommodation, health insurance),
  • obtaining financial aid for mobility.

A Global Network of Partners

Mines Saint-Étienne is part of the Institut Mines-Télécom, a network of schools present on all five continents. The school collaborates with over 140 partner universities and schools worldwide:

  • Europe: Germany, Spain, Italy, Sweden, United Kingdom, Netherlands…
  • Americas: Canada, United States, Brazil, Chile, Mexico…
  • Asia: Japan, India, China, South Korea, Vietnam…
  • Africa: Morocco, Tunisia, Senegal, Ivory Coast…

These partnerships offer opportunities for mobility, joint projects, and double degrees in cutting-edge technological fields.

Welcome for International Students

Each year, the Gardanne campus welcomes international students coming for a semester, a double degree, or research mobility.
The School implements several measures to facilitate their integration.

  • French as a Foreign Language (FLE) courses,
  • Administrative assistance (accommodation, visa, health insurance),
  • Individual support via the International Relations Office,
  • Student tutoring and intercultural activities organized by the Student House clubs.

💬 The cultural diversity of the campus is a valuable asset that contributes to the open-mindedness and creativity of future ISMIN engineers.

International Mobility Aid

Several financial aid schemes support international mobility:

  • Erasmus+ Programme for stays in Europe,
  • Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Regional Scholarships,
  • International Mobility Aid (AMI) from the Ministry of Economy,
  • Mines Saint-Étienne Foundation Scholarships,
  • Specific aid from partner universities.

These supports enable everyone to gain an accessible and valuable international experience.

Languages and Interculturality

Language proficiency and cultural understanding are essential skills in the ISMIN curriculum.

Students follow:

  • English courses throughout the curriculum,
  • a compulsory second modern language (German, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, or Portuguese),
  • intercultural workshops to prepare for their mobility,
  • and courses taught in English in the third year.

💡 Several projects, presentations, and reports can be completed in English to consolidate linguistic skills.

Going abroad allowed me to step out of my comfort zone, to learn differently, and to discover another way of innovating.
