The ISMIN syllabus is the official reference for the Microelectronic and Computer Systems Engineering programme at Mines Saint-Étienne.
It details all the courses, projects, internships, and skills developed throughout the three-year programme.

This document, updated annually, is an essential tool for students, faculty, and academic or industrial partners, as it presents the complete programme structure, educational objectives, associated ECTS credits, and assessment methods.

The ISMIN programme is equivalent to the European Master’s level and is accredited by the CTI (Commission des Titres d’Ingénieur).

📊 Credit and Validation System

It is structured into six semesters (S5 to S10), each corresponding to 30 ECTS, and includes:

  • scientific and technical courses (lectures, tutorials, practical work),
  • capstone projects,
  • elective modules (languages, communication, corporate culture),
  • and internships or mobility periods.

Obtaining the ISMIN Engineering Degree requires the validation of 180 ECTS credits, including international mobility and proficiency in two modern languages.

🧠 Targeted Global Competencies

The ISMIN engineer is recognized for their dual expertise in microelectronics and computer science, but also for their ability to:

  • Design, model, and integrate complex systems.
  • Innovate in digital fields and the industry of the future.
  • Manage interdisciplinary projects.
  • Communicate effectively in a multicultural context.
  • Act ethically and responsibly.

🧩 Curriculum Structure

Common Core

Present in the first two years, it includes:

  • Electronics and Microelectronics,
  • Computer Science and Programming,
  • Mathematics and Signal Processing,
  • Physics and Materials,
  • Industrial Engineering and Production Systems,
  • Modern Languages and Communication.

Elective Modules

These modules aim to broaden knowledge and prepare for specialization:

  • Management, Economics, and Innovation,
  • Human and Social Sciences,
  • Sustainable Development and Engineering Ethics.

Specializations (3rd year)

Students choose a major and a technological focus area from several options:

  • Majors: Computer Science / Embedded Systems / Microelectronics
  • Focus Areas: Electronics for Autonomous Systems / Computer Science and Technologies for Supply Chain / Mobility & Security / Biomedical Systems.

Professional Electives

Optional modules focused on:

  • innovation and entrepreneurship,
  • research and doctoral studies,
  • project management and industrial strategy.

🌍 International and Interculturality

The ISMIN syllabus includes a mandatory international mobility period of at least 3 months.
This can take the form of:

  • an internship abroad,
  • an academic exchange at a partner university,
  • or an international double degree.

Modules on modern languages, interculturality, and scientific communication in English support this dimension.

Mines Saint-Étienne has over 140 partner universities in 50 countries.
Students benefit from individualized support for linguistic and administrative preparation.

📘 Syllabus Usage

The ISMIN syllabus is:

  • an academic guide for students,
  • a management tool for faculty and educational managers,
  • a reference document for partner universities and companies hosting interns,
  • a guarantee of transparency and quality for national and international accreditations (CTI, EUR-ACE, Erasmus+).
