The PDIS Program is not an integrated preparatory class: it does not prepare for the entrance exams of engineering schools.
However, it offers an orientation pathway towards several opportunities, accessible without competitive exams, such as:

• the engineering programs of IMT schools,
• the second year of medical studies,
• or Master’s programs in the fields of engineering and health.

It is not generally permitted, except in exceptional circumstances.

No: the PDIS diploma requires the validation of the PDIS disciplinary blocks and the teaching units of the SPS Bachelor’s degree.

Mines Saint-Étienne stands out for its pioneering position at the interface of engineering and health.
It offers dual-degree programs – Pharmacist-Engineer, Doctor-Engineer, and now Dentist-Engineer – and relies on its Centre for Biomedical and Healthcare Engineering (CIS), a national and international benchmark for its innovative research.

Upon completion of the program, the student receives:

• the PDIS institutional diploma from Mines Saint-Étienne,
• the Licence in Health Sciences (L1 + L2) from Jean Monnet University.

The Preparatory and Diploma Cycle in Engineering and Health (PDIS) is a 2-year post-baccalaureate program aimed at students interested in science, health, innovation, and technology.
It offers a selective alternative to CPGE or initial medical study cycles and allows students to keep both paths open: engineering and health.

The academic year generally begins in mid-August. Specific dates are communicated to admitted candidates upon completion of the selection process.

• Dual Opportunity: pursue an engineering degree program or enter the second year of medical studies without an entrance exam.
• Balanced and Multidisciplinary Academics: instruction in mathematics, physics, engineering sciences, biology and health, and courses in humanities, languages, and sports.

The PDIS takes place over 4 semesters (S1 → S4), with:

• a common core curriculum in the first year,
• a choice between Engineering Option or Health Option in the second year.

On the Campus Santé Innovations, 4 days a week, comprising:

• the Centre for Biomedical and Healthcare Engineering of Mines Saint-Étienne,
• the Faculty of Medicine,
• near the North University Hospital.

and one day at the historic site of Mines Saint-Étienne school, at 158 cours Fauriel.

Yes: the objective of the program is also to prepare for entry into the Ingénieur Civil des Mines (ICM) program or other engineering schools.

Applications are submitted via Parcoursup, starting January 15 for a mid-August intake of the same year.

• Yes for ‘intermediate’ candidates.
• No for ‘top-tier candidates’, exempt from interview.

Yes:

• means-tested scholarships,
• university aid programs,
• additional aid based on individual circumstances.

Each cohort has 60 students.

A student interested in hard sciences (mathematics, physics, chemistry), biology, and the challenges of life and health.
Recommended specializations: Life and Earth Sciences, Mathematics, Physics-Chemistry.

Yes: the SPS Bachelor’s Degree allows you to apply for:

• medicine (LAS2 / LAS3),
• health master’s degrees.

Yes: possible admission to:

• ICM Program,
• IMT Schools,
• Télécom Saint-Étienne,
• Other engineering schools, subject to application review.

This is not a selection process but rather an orientation track: the number of places offered exceeds the number of students in the cohort (60).

6 places are reserved each year for PDIS students in their 2nd year of medical school (LAS2/LAS3).

Yes, and PDIS students can participate in the sports, associative, and cultural activities offered by Mines Saint-Étienne and UJM.
