The startup SWAP has developed the connected device “Swap Médical”, an innovative solution designed with Professor Philippe Robert of the Claude Pompidou Institute in collaboration with experts from the Centre of Microelectronics in Provence on the G. Charpak Provence campus. Its founder, Guillaume Eberwein, an ISMIN engineer, supported by Team@Mines Saint-Étienne, has just joined the world’s largest startup incubator: Station F, created by Xavier Niel.
The Swap Médical (www.swap-assistance.fr) has been marketed since this year to the general public and healthcare professionals (nursing homes, EHPADs, medicalized homes, clinics, serviced residences). It enables outdoor and indoor geolocation within a building to locate Alzheimer’s patients who get lost.
It adapts as a keychain in the early stages of the disease, then as belt clips, and finally as a watch bracelet via an integrated attachment system.
Awarded 22 times
Swap has been supported since its creation in 2015 by the TEAM@Mines Saint-Étienne maturation program on the Georges Charpak Provence Campus, in conjunction with the expertise of the Centre of Microelectronics in Provence for R&D development.
The startup has received numerous regional and national awards over the past three years and now benefits from increased visibility, particularly since its participation in CES Las Vegas.
“Two years of R&D were necessary to develop disruptive innovations for the implementation of a revolutionary solution called Swap Médical”.
This is a patented device, entirely designed and manufactured in France, which has been recognized by about twenty competitions worldwide.
Via the free Mon Swap application, caregivers can constantly monitor their loved ones and will be immediately notified if they leave a defined area.
“Share my experience as a startup founder”
Guillaume Eberwein, an ISMIN engineer and Mines Saint-Étienne graduate, receives an increasing number of requests from students on the topic of entrepreneurship.
At the end of 2017, he supported a group of engineering students from the ISMIN curriculum participating in the ON[e]Life hackathon: they placed 2nd.
Last September, he also coached 4 engineering students in the Embedded Electronic Systems specialization program for the final of the 2018 Future Engineering Award: Antal Bike, their smart bike project, has just won the “Hope Prize” in the competition!
An entrepreneurial journey praised by the press
The success and growth of the young company have been the subject of several regional and national articles, notably Le Monde Campus on November 3: “Engineer-manager, a dual role to boost your career”.
The dual engineer-manager degree from Mines Saint-Étienne and the brilliant entrepreneurial journey of Guillaume Eberwein are cited as examples.
Swap is expected to raise funds soon to continue its development. We wish them every success!
