Abstract

The European Union’s strategy aims to create structures and ecosystems that enable reliable data transactions between stakeholders in a seamless manner, while addressing challenges related to data sharing and usage control. Data spaces are a central pillar of this strategy, seeking to facilitate data sharing and exploitation while ensuring sovereignty, trust, and interoperability. Within a data space, an access contract is negotiated between a data provider and a consumer. An as-yet unexplored research direction involves considering the diversity of possible negotiation types, particularly flexible negotiation processes in which the format or semantics of the data itself can be the subject of negotiations. The objective of this thesis is to propose a formalization and a methodological framework for advanced data access contract negotiation mechanisms within data spaces. Enriching the descriptions of datasets, as well as contract offers and requests, could allow for the exploration of new negotiation scenarios tailored to the specific needs of the actors involved. The ambition is for these proposals to be based on open Web standards, so they can be integrated into emerging data space frameworks (Gaia-X, IDS, EOSC, Solid Data Spaces).
