The MedTechLab is a Health Experimentation Third Place (TLE) open to health and medico-social establishments, based at the Centre for Biomedical and Healthcare Engineering of Mines Saint-Étienne.
It is led by the School and the AÉSIO Santé mutual insurance company. The mission of MedTechLab is to provide a privileged environment to support and encourage research and the development of innovative projects. Collective intelligence workshops, model design, prototyping, experimentation and testing programmes, MedTechLab provides access to the expertise of engineers and researchers from Mines Saint-Étienne as well as healthcare professionals. The objective is to develop a tool to promote research excellence and improve the care of all users.
On December 4, MedTechLab experts met at the School to present this third place and its missions. Jacques Fayolle and Thierry Esmilaire, co-CEO of AESIO Santé, opened the meetings by highlighting the importance of the third place’s local roots. Meeting with industrial and local stakeholders strengthens the MedTechLab network.
A regional network particularly conducive to collaboration and health research: With the support of the Saint-Étienne University Hospital and a group like AÉSIO Santé, Mines Saint-Étienne is pursuing its goal of being an engineering school with a positive societal impact.
Vincent Augusto and Olivier Pignet also spoke to highlight the commitment of the TLE they jointly manage.
Moderated by Gérald Comtet, TLE coordinator, the event allowed around ten startups to pitch their innovative health tech solutions:
- a screening solution with the startup Lianeli,
- a medical imaging access solution with X-Ray Moov
- or the Lumeen device, which offers virtual reality as a non-drug therapeutic alternative.
The pitches followed one after another, each more innovative than the last.
