On Monday, March 28, the Sustainable Development and Social Responsibility delegation of Mines Saint-Etienne (DD RS) invited the School’s staff to visit the new boiler room facilities.

Laure RICHARD, Director of Real Estate and General Resources, presented the new installation whose specifications took into account not only energy performance criteria, but also environmental, societal, and economic requirements (low-carbon concrete, professional integration, minimization, sorting and recycling of construction waste, short supply chains for materials, electric-powered equipment, low-noise tools, etc.).
Christophe BRUYAS, Maintenance and Logistics Manager, presented the technical installations and the scientific laboratory associated with the boiler room, which is currently being fitted out.

Eric PIATYSZEK, researcher at the Henri Fayol Institute, IMT, EVS Laboratory (CNRS UMR 5600), presented the installation of the vegetated roof terrace (TTV) combined with an Urban Rain Garden (JPU) as well as the research work that will enable monitoring and modeling of this system to address the following research question: Is it possible to achieve zero stormwater discharge on a plot equipped with a TTV coupled with a JPU?

The guided tours were conducted in small groups of about fifteen people. To allow time for discussion and provide refreshments between sessions, the DD RS delegation offered a gourmet coffee break in “sustainable development” mode—fruit juice, coffee, tea, water (all without disposable cups), and homemade cakes…
Thanks to the DD RS delegation, Sandrine Bonny and Natacha Gondran, who organized this enriching and friendly event.
A big thank you also to Laure RICHARD, Christophe BRUYAS, and Eric PIATYSZEK, who introduced us to these exemplary and innovative installations in an educational manner.
