During the 2018-2019 academic year, students and staff had the opportunity to get involved on our campuses in various actions related to autonomy, health, and disabilities, and to share experiences with associations and professionals from the medical world. The 2020 perspectives are equally ambitious and open.

Active and participatory pedagogy offered to students is a way to move beyond so-called “traditional” courses and place them in a leadership role throughout their studies: use of design thinking, a multidisciplinary approach, collaboration with stakeholders in the fields of health, education, business, and the non-profit sector, and the breaking down of academic silos.

Several pedagogical actions and initiatives carried out last year will be renewed in 2019/2020 (Handi-Management partnership, civic and solidarity projects, etc.), while certain projects are currently being considered or developed:

  • Two civic projects for students (ICM curriculum)
    – bone marrow donation, in partnership with La Sapaudia Auvergne,
    – the creation of a specific pedagogical kit with AIMCP-Loire.
  • A “Solidarity Engineer in Action” project (ISMIN curriculum)
    – IT workshops in connection with CofoR
  • Interculturality Modules / ICM 2A curriculum
Several themes are being considered: being deaf vs. being hearing / Down Syndrome: autonomy and independence / Loss of capacity/Occupational burnout (at the project stage for 2020/2021)
  • Handi’Tech Day on May 14, 2020: “One chance in a million,” focused on donation (bone marrow, blood, and organs).
  • Handi-Management Label with Companieros and a local company for a group of 10 students (ICM and ISMIN)
  • Participation in working groups Disability Schooling IMT, CGE, UdL (1)
  • MEMO “Best Practices” regarding disability for the teaching staff, with a particular focus on DYS disorders.
  • Renewal of the agreement with University Preventive Medicine (2)

The attractiveness of our approach has been noted during presentations to our partners, which encourages us to continue on this path and establish new connections with leading institutions and companies with advanced HR policies regarding disability.

(1) Beyond its membership in the IMT, which deploys an ambitious strategy for disability inclusion, our School works in collaboration with its networks such as the Conférence des Grandes Écoles (CGE) and the University of Lyon.

(2) The MPU agreement specifically concerns the implementation of recommendations from the referring physician for students declared as having a disability who have requested accommodations (human or technical) during courses and exams: extra time, special conditions for written/oral tests, and adaptation of language tests such as the TOEIC.
