Join an excellent Master of Science in Engineering (M2) in Hybrid Electronics, at the microelectronics–materials interface
The Hybrid Electronics Master of Science in Engineering is a selective Master 2 (M2) level programme. The admission procedure is centralized by Mines Saint-Étienne / Aix-Marseille Université and is based on a thorough review of applications, aiming to identify candidates with high potential, capable of committing to a demanding environment, closely aligned with research and innovation.
Target Audience and Prerequisites
The Master of Science in Engineering Hybrid Electronics is intended for candidates wishing to specialize at the interface of microelectronics, materials, and associated advanced technologies (including hybrid electronics and, depending on the projects, bioelectronics). Admission is open to French and international profiles; diploma equivalence is assessed by the admission committee.
Eligibility Requirements
Recruitment takes place at the M2 level. The admission committee, composed of academic supervisors, evaluates academic excellence, the suitability of the profile (microelectronics / materials science), and the ability to follow a 100% English-taught curriculum. An interview (often via video conference) may be offered.
| Criteria | Expectation | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Academic Level | Completed Master 1 (M1) or equivalent | Qualification demonstrating 240 ECTS (France or international). |
| Required Fields | Relevant prior Academics | Microelectronics, materials science, applied physics, nanotechnologies, electronics/embedded systems, or equivalent disciplines. |
| Academic excellence | High expectations | Application file demonstrating rigor, work capacity, and a very good scientific level. |
| Suitability for the Master of Science in Engineering | Project consistency | Explicit motivation for hybrid electronics (and, where applicable, bioelectronics) and for a research/innovation-oriented environment. |
| Language | Mandatory English | Programme 100% English-taught: recommended level B2 minimum. |
Typically Admitted Profiles
- Students holding an M1 (or equivalent) degree in microelectronics, electronics, materials, applied physics, or related fields.
- Engineering students at Bac+4 level with a consistent specialization and an excellent academic record.
- International candidates holding an MSc (or equivalent) degree: diploma equivalence is assessed by the committee.
Language Requirements (English)
- Instruction: the Programme is entirely taught in English.
- Level: a good level is essential (as an indication: B2 minimum).
- Certification: a certification (TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, or equivalent) may be requested depending on the profiles; it is not systematically required but facilitates the evaluation of the application file.
Application Procedure
Selection, carried out by the academic committee, takes place in three stages.
1. Submission of the application file
The complete application file must contain, at a minimum, the following documents:
- Curriculum Vitae (CV), detailing your academic background and professional experience/internships.
- Motivation Letter, explaining your professional project and its relevance to the Master of Science in Engineering.
- Official Transcripts for your entire academic career (Bachelor’s and Master 1).
- Diplomas: copies of your previous diplomas.
- English Proficiency Certificate (TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS or equivalent) if English is not the applicant’s native language or language of instruction.
- French Language Test (TEF, DELF…) for non-French-speaking students.
- Recommendations: academic and/or professional recommendation letters (optional depending on the application platform).
A. French and European Union applicants
B. International Applicants: “Études en France” Procedure
If you are a foreign student not a national of the EEA (nor Switzerland/Monaco/Andorra) and reside in a country covered by “Études en France”, you must complete two steps:
This step is essential to obtain a visa and may also provide access to scholarships.
International students are encouraged to apply as early as possible.

2. Review of the application file by the academic committee
The criteria assessed are:
- the academic level and the fit of the academic background,
- the coherence of the career plan,
- transversal skills (motivation, rigour, ability to work).
3. Selection interview (optional)
An interview (remote or in person) may be organised to:
- better understand the motivation,
- clarify the intended track,
- verify certain prerequisites.
Admission capacity
The Master of Science in Engineering Hybrid Electronics deliberately limits the size of its cohorts to guarantee:
- individualized support,
- privileged access to technological platforms,
- high-quality guidance during projects and the research internship.
