As part of the European Euratom project “Innovative materials for nuclear industry”, the Materials Science and Mechanical Engineering Centre is involved in the development and promotion of new materials for nuclear applications.

On 13 and 14 October, a series of conferences was held at Mines Saint-Étienne around this project. The Innumat Summer School brought together around forty people, including 7 speakers who are experts in new alloys. Their presentations were followed by the presentation of the work of 15 PhD students from 10 different European countries. Among them was Koutheir Riahi, a PhD student at the SMS Centre, who works on the manufacturing and design of new families of alloys for the nuclear sector.

The participants also had the opportunity to visit the SMS Center to learn about alloy development and the Museum of Art and Industry of Saint-Étienne.
