Catherine Tessier, Research Director at ONERA Toulouse, will give a lecture at Espace Fauriel on the topic “Generative artificial intelligence systems and research: a few ethical questions”.

ONERA is the French Aerospace Research Center. Catherine Tessier is a research director and the scientific integrity and ethics referent there. She is a member and vice-president of the National Digital Ethics Advisory Committee and a member of the Defense Ethics Committee.

She was also part of the ad hoc group of experts at UNESCO to develop the recommendation on the ethics of Artificial Intelligence. An expert to the European Commission for the evaluation and ethical monitoring of European projects, she is currently co-rapporteur of a joint opinion between the National Consultative Ethics Committee for Life Sciences and Health and the National Consultative Ethics Committee for Digital Technology on digital neurotechnologies.

The lecture will focus on best practices to adopt to address the intrinsic vulnerabilities of generative artificial intelligence systems used in the context of research. Fundamental questions must be asked, particularly regarding the drafting of scientific documents: what are the objectives of a written document in research? What is a scientific document? What is the meaning of a scientific document produced, partially or entirely, automatically? The presentation will be illustrated with recent real-world situations.
