More than 80 participants—academics, researchers, and industry professionals—were welcomed on March 28 and 29 during the 50th Conference on Heterogeneous Kinetics organized by the Georges Friedel Laboratory (UMR CNRS 5307) and the SPIN Center.
This annual national symposium, organized since 1969, offers highly enriching exchanges between stakeholders and experts in the field. It brings together the French community using the concepts and tools of Heterogeneous Kinetics.
81 researchers, including 26 PhD students, were welcomed with an address by Professor Jean-Paul Viricelle, Director of the Georges Friedel Laboratory. The days were punctuated by 17 presentations by PhD students, followed by 6 presentations by senior researchers on Friday morning. Once again, the quality of the presentations was highlighted.
The Jean Besson Prize, awarded since 1991 to a doctoral student, recognizes the quality and originality of their scientific approach, their enthusiasm, and their ability to communicate their results in a pedagogical manner: this year it was awarded to Thomas Perez, who is preparing his thesis at the Institut Jean Lamour in Nancy in collaboration with SIMAP in Grenoble. His work focuses on the effect of adding minor elements (Si, Mn) on the high-temperature oxidation of a Ni-25Cr model alloy.
The prize was presented to him during the gala dinner held at the Cité du Design in Saint-Étienne.
The organizers of this anniversary event thank the management of Mines Saint-Étienne for providing the facilities, and the general and financial services that enabled the smooth running of the conference.
They also thank Setaram Instrumentation for its financial support and the Saint-Étienne Tourist Office for its logistical support.
