SchooLab is a project led by La Rotonde—the Center for Scientific Culture of Mines Saint-Etienne—designed to provide middle and high school students with scientific immersion.
This year, five pathways are offered to ten middle and high school classes across the Aix-Marseille-Provence region. Robotics, health, all types of science, security, and sustainable development—the SchooLab topics are diverse and consistently inspire career paths among students. In Gardanne, the scientific programme is punctuated by classroom workshops, lectures, laboratory and company visits, and meetings with scientists.
The first workshop took place in mid-December at the Honoré Daumier middle school in Martigues. Led by first- and second-year ISMIN students from the Illu-Mines association, this workshop introduced students to the world of robotics and programming. They were able to make a robot move, dance, and light up its LEDs. It was a wonderful way to demonstrate that science can also be creative and accessible to everyone!
Many other workshops and meetings await students in the Sud region, and we will be following them closely.
The programme is supported by I-NOVMICRO (an innovation programme to develop and promote the microelectronics and electronics training sector in the Sud region).
