New facilities, new accommodation offers, new website: for several years, the Maison des élèves at Mines Saint-Étienne has continued to expand, renovate and open up living spaces, particularly for our engineering students. The New Year’s ceremony was an opportunity for the teams to present the latest developments.

8,000 m² of buildings on 2 hectares of land

Since it was built in 1965, the Maison des élèves in Saint-Étienne (ME) has undergone continuous expansion and renovation, increasing from 237 units in the historic building to 380 units planned by the end of 2018: 152 rooms and 228 studios, including 5 accessible to people with reduced mobility. All buildings are accessible to PRM.
This was achieved thanks to the construction of new buildings and major reconfiguration works (relocation of the exterior façades).
Over the 2011–2018 period, €4.5 million was invested by the SA-HLM to reconfigure and insulate the ME’s historic building.

Improving living conditions at the ME

At the same time, numerous internal renovations are being carried out, improving residents’ living conditions day by day: common room and shared kitchens, squash and cinema rooms, replacement of furniture and rollout of Wi-Fi in the rooms, renovation of 12 studios and various sports and communal areas…

Team and operations with residents

The ME is also, above all, a team of 15 people dedicated to ensuring smooth operations and everyone’s well-being. From the booking request to moving out, the teams welcome, advise and support residents in all aspects of their stay: move-in, administrative management, day-to-day life (upkeep, maintenance, monitoring).

Focus on short stays

In addition to year-round rentals for students, since 2010 the ME has also offered “short-stay” rentals: a service made possible by the increasing number of students leaving for international mobility and/or internships during the year (with the greatest availability from the end of March).

in the presence of the School’s management, representatives of the Saint-Étienne Métropole Tourist Office, the City of Saint-Étienne, Loire habitat, ISTP, EM Lyon, ENISE, CIDO, the directors of SA HLM Beaunier and AGME, residents and ME staff.

The “ME” is managed by two organisations : the Maison des élèves management association, chaired by Didier Bernache, and SA-HLM Beaunier, the association that owns the buildings, chaired by Jean François Guerder.

Both associations are led and administered by former students of the School, all volunteers, in close partnership with Mines Saint-Étienne Alumni and its Executive Director, Patrick Bouzenot.
