Recent months have been rich in international exchanges for Mines Saint-Étienne’s research centers. Partnerships, workshops, conferences, and long-term collaborations: all these projects reflect the dynamism of research at our School and contribute to promoting the work carried out by our laboratories.
New relations with Cameroon for the SMS center
From June 17 to July 3, 2026, Mohamed Mouafon participated in an international conference on geomaterials, as well as two workshops on ceramics and metallurgy in Cameroon.
During these events, he exchanged with several Cameroonian colleagues who expressed interest in multifaceted collaborations between their institutions and Mines Saint-Étienne.
Following this international visit, discussions are underway with Cameroonian institutions, the École Nationale Supérieure Polytechnique de Yaoundé (ENSPY) and the Mission de Promotion des Matériaux Locaux (MIPROMALO), on the topic of geopolymers and powder metallurgy.

The international Summer School “AI Technologies for Industry 4.0” organized by the Henri Fayol Institute
From July 20 to 24, 2026, Mines Saint-Étienne organized the 6th edition of the international summer school “AI Technologies for Industry 4.0”, promoted by the Henri Fayol Institute in partnership with several foreign universities.
This 6th edition focused on artificial intelligence for the industry of the future. Participants were able to follow the programme from four connected sites: Mines Saint-Étienne, the University of São Paulo (USP), the Polytechnic University of Bucharest (UPB), as well as online.
The 34 participants discussed a central objective: to deepen their mastery of advanced artificial intelligence technologies and models to address the challenges related to digital transformation, the automation of cognitive tasks, and the development of a more reliable, resilient, and responsible industry of the future.
The Centre of Microelectronics in Provence, at the heart of Africacrypt 2026

Nadia El Mrabet was Programme Chair at the 17th International Conference on Cryptology, from July 8 to 10 in Hammamet (Tunisia). This is a major scientific event, presented in collaboration with the International Association for Cryptologic Research (IACR).
This 2026 edition of Africacrypt was enhanced by a summer school dedicated to post-quantum cryptography and co-organized by Nadia El Mrabet.
Mines Saint-Étienne supported the event as a sponsor, which allowed 5 students from African countries to participate. The international recognition of these meetings also reinforces the visibility and attractiveness of the Centre of Microelectronics in Provence’s programmes, including cryptography.
SPIN signs an international cooperation agreement with Vietnam
On September 11, Mines Saint-Étienne signed a historic partnership with the Hanoi University of Mining and Geology (HUMG). This ambitious agreement formalizes the creation of a joint laboratory between HUMG and the SPIN center on clathrate hydrates, focused on CCUS technologies: CO2 capture, utilization, and storage.
A next meeting is scheduled for November: Jean-Michel Herri, a research professor at SPIN and co-founder of the Carbon Cage startup, will travel to Hanoi to consolidate this major cooperation.
Collaboration with Japan at the Centre for Biomedical and Healthcare Engineering
The OJISAN project –France-Japan Twinning Opportunities: Innovation for Seniors in Digital Health – aims to pool research experiences in France and Japan on the use of digital health for the care of elderly people, particularly through two case studies:
- The implementation of a digital twin for hospital service organization, to reduce waiting times
- The comparative use of new technologies in nursing homes
In this context, Vincent AUGUSTO and Marius HUGUET (CIS/I4S dept) carried out a mission to Kyutech and Tohoku from September 27 to October 3 to meet partners from Kyushu Institute of Technology and develop this research collaboration.
The OJISAN project benefits from the support of the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes Region’s “International Ambition” until June 2028.
