This 2nd edition was a great success, with nearly 200 participants and 1,000 recorded contributions. Open to students from IMT schools from October 15 to December 17, 2018, it offered a challenge focused on forecasting product sales at motorway service areas. Four engineering students from Mines Saint-Étienne, IMT Atlantique and IMT Lille-Douai made it onto the podium!

The challenge led by Olivier Roustant (Mines Saint-Étienne, Institut Fayol), Michel Lutz (Total) and Anthony Morin (Argédis) was a great success with students, with nearly 200 participants and 1,000 contributions recorded on the website.

The objective was to use a dataset to provide the best sales forecasts for more than 400 perishable products in two motorway service area shops, in order to optimise their supply: avoiding stockouts, as well as waste linked to unsold items.

The ranking of candidates was carried out according to a two-step procedure:

The selection of the 10 best students based on the predictive quality of their model.
The evaluation, by a jury made up of lecturers from IMT schools and representatives from Total, of a report explaining the approach.

We extend our warmest congratulations to the four selected winners:

1st – Victor Finkelstein, Mines Saint-Étienne (ICM 3A)
2nd – Antonin Villemin, IMT Atlantique
3rd – Yann Hallouard, Mines Saint-Étienne (ICM 3A)
4th – Kevin Ducharlet, IMT Lille-Douai

Each of them received an offer for a data science internship within Total and its subsidiary Argédis.
