Biography
After a PhD in Biological and Medical Engineering, Valérie Forest had a post-doctoral position in the Research Centre of the Hospital Centre of the University of Montreal/Montreal Cancer Institute, Montreal, Canada. Since 2010, she is Assistant Professor in the Center for Health Engineering at Mines Saint Etienne. Her current main research interest is the cytotoxicity of nanomaterials. She coordinates the Biomedical Engineering Major and teaches cell biology, tissue engineering, nanomedicine, nanotoxicology and synthetic biology. She also supervised students participating in the iGEM competition (international competition of synthetic biology organized by the MIT) in 2011, 2013 and 2014.
She is the scientific referent for the Cellvizio Lab equipment (probe-based confocal fluorescence microscope). She is part of an expert group from the Observatory of the Micro and Nano Technologies (OMNT, UMS2920-CNRS/CEA).
She is a regular reviewer for the following journals: International Journal of Nanomedicine, Journal of Hazardous Materials, Journal of Nanoparticle Research, Nanotoxicology, Bioorganic and Medicinal Chemistry, Acta Biomaterialia, Toxicological Sciences.
Research topics
Nanotoxicology, inhaled particles, cytotoxicity of nanomaterials, biological monitoring of nanoparticles in human clinical samples.
Teaching areas
Valerie Forest coordinates the Biomedical Engineering Major which aims at giving the basics in life sciences required for any engineer who wants to work in the Health field as well as knowledge on the main current and future tools for diagnosis and therapeutics. She teaches cell biology, synthetic biology, nanomedicine, nanotoxicity and tissue engineering.
