Responsibilities and duties

Director of the first year of computer science teachings

Biography

Dr Xavier Serpaggi began his research on computer graphics focusing on computer generated images and indirect lightning. Professor Serpaggi has a curious soul. His eclectic studies run the gamut of many of the major aspects of informatics and the smaller field of computer science.
For example, later in his career, he and some of his colleagues explored the topic of trust and privacy on the Internet in the case of commercial exchanges just as it became topical. This work led him and others to show interest in cloud computing technology then in the Quality of Experience in cloud computing transactions. More recently, it is the field of the Internet of Things and connected devices in general that piqued his interest. He created the lab for connected devices at Mines Saint-Etienne in 2011 and is also manager of the computer science lab of the Computer Science and Intelligent Systems research team. Dr Serpaggi has published and reviewed papers, participated in scientific conferences, helped organize one of the biggest international Symposiums ever held at our school INCOM06, all the while being one of our most dedicated teachers. Xavier is very appreciated by both students and colleagues for his informative teaching and his pedagogical innovation through agile methods. Dr Xavier Serpaggi is ready to lend an ear and give some always kind and often very astute advice. Xavier is the coordinator of the school’s computer science program for the first year engineering students, and enhances its content each year. Professor Xavier Serpaggi is a contributing member of ICM Pedagogic Committee and elected member of Mines Saint-Etienne Teaching Committee.
