Research topics

My work deals with nanomechanical testing, microscale materials modelling, finite element modeling and microstructural characterization in relation with consequences of surface mechanical treatments and contact mechanics.

The first part of my research activity consists in developing methods to extract the mechanical properties at small scales with the help of nano or micromechanical experiments – indentation, impact, pillars compression and scratch testing. The second part of my research activity concerns the microstructure evolution induced by Surface Mechanical Treatments (shot peening, hammering, burnishing, polishing and so on). The main focus is the understanding of severe plastic deformation, dynamic recrystallisation of the near-surface that can improve durability of metals by near-surface strengthening (compressive residual stress fields, micro-structure refinement)
