For several years, students have been assessing the greenhouse gas emissions from their student campaigns. Led by the student association Respire, its objective is to reduce the environmental impact of student events.

Students at Mines Saint-Étienne have taken the initiative to conduct a greenhouse gas emissions assessment of their student campaigns. This ambitious project was launched last year by Respire, the school’s environmental association. Its purpose is to propose solutions to reduce the environmental impact of campus life, particularly student campaigns, which represent a highlight of the academic year. These campaigns aim to elect the leaders of the associations that drive campus life.

After establishing the calculation hypotheses, the committed students asked the various competing lists during the campaigns to provide their consumption related to scopes 1 (direct consumption) and 3 (indirect emissions).

Using this information, the Respire association is drafting a guide for more responsible event management, which brings together methods and tips to reduce the carbon footprint of campaigns. This analysis has allowed them to gain perspective on their environmental impact as students and provides them with more relevant levers for action to reduce it.

Congratulations on this great initiative!
