Anne Robertson, from the University of Pittsburgh, USA, is being hosted as a visiting professor at the Centre for Biomedical and Healthcare Engineering from March 5 to 15, thanks to joint funding from the Mines Saint-Étienne Foundation and Saint-Étienne Métropole.
Frank Zeman, from the Royal Military College, Canada, has been hosted at the SPIN Center since September 2017 thanks to funding from the Lafarge Research Centre and the Mines Saint-Étienne Foundation.
Both gave a scientific presentation on the afternoon of March 8.
Frank Zeman, a professor in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at the Royal Military College of Canada, is being hosted at the SPIN Center until June 30, 2018.
This academic and industrial mobility is co-funded under a tripartite agreement between the Lafarge Research Centre, the Mines Saint-Étienne Foundation, and the School.
Hosted in the Department of Environmental Processes and Geo-resources, under the supervision of Jean-Michel Herri, he is working with Daniel Garcia on concrete recycling; his presentation on the afternoon of March 8 focused on the zero-waste cement industry: “Waste concrete recycling for a circular economy”.
His work focuses on two projects: recycling of demolition concrete and the development of hydrometallurgical processes for the pretreatment of new mineral loads (with a vision of miniaturized processes transportable to remote sites).
Anne Robertson, a professor at the University of Pittsburgh (Mechanical Engineering & Materials Science, Bioengineering Department), is being hosted as a visiting professor at the Centre for Biomedical and Healthcare Engineering, in Stéphane Avril’s team from March 5 to 14, thanks to joint funding from the Foundation and Saint-Étienne Métropole.
The research conducted with the CIS team focuses on the strength and biomechanical properties of cerebral aneurysms. Given the CIS’s experience and reputation in the biomechanics of aortic aneurysms, the goal is to see how the approaches developed by the CIS can be applied to cerebral aneurysms.
A world-renowned specialist in brain aneurysms, Anne Robertson gave a presentation on the afternoon of March 8 entitled: “Research in soft tissue biomechanics at the University of Pittsburgh – a driver of novel treatment therapies”.
Following these presentations, the “2018 Residencies” call for projects was launched, open to faculty members and researchers, and co-funded by Saint-Etienne Métropole and the Foundation.
