Florent Néri and Nabil Bekhaled (E2016) will be part of the “Ship for World Youth 2019” adventure! This programme is offered annually by the Japanese government to 12 countries, including France for the first time. This is an exceptional opportunity for exchange and international cooperation for our young ambassadors. Congratulations to them on their application and selection! Departure is scheduled for January 10, 2020.
France is participating for the first time in this programme, which this year brings together Brazil, Egypt, France, Kenya, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the United Kingdom, Sri Lanka, and Japan.
The applications of Florent and Nabil have therefore been accepted: they are among the 12 French delegates and will join the 240 young international participants for this journey between Japan and Mexico.
On the programme for this round trip aboard the “Nihon-maru”: debates and group projects on a range of economic, scientific, and societal issues.
“This exchange is a unique conclusion to my ICM curriculum! Even if it delays my first job, it is an exceptional opportunity that I could not miss,” says Florent Neri, who learned about this programme through the academic department during his final internship at Framatome Lyon.
“My ICM path has been resolutely international; during my S7, I completed an academic exchange in Finland at the University of Pori. It was during this exchange that I began to become sensitive to the themes that will be addressed during the “Ship for World Youth” programme: climate change, energy, and sustainable urban models.
Scandinavians have a particular relationship with Nature, quite different from ours, which I was able to discover during the five months spent there. Some of my courses, such as International Management or Intercultural Communication, helped me understand Finnish culture and those of other ERASMUS students.
It was in the middle of my final year, while I was taking the O3 energy module (which I recommend to those interested in renewable and nuclear energy), that I truly became aware of climate issues and the responsibility we have as future engineers.”
“These themes made me want to participate in this programme”
“This international cooperation is a real chance to compare our opinions and ideas, as diverse as the cultures that will be represented by the backgrounds of the various participants. The multitude of subjects covered will be a great opportunity to (re)think our entire way of life as we have known it for 150 years.”
We look forward to following the feedback from our two ambassadors in three months’ time!
