The Mathematics and Operations Research for Engineering department of the Fayol Institute, Mines Saint-Étienne (LIMOS Laboratory) was in the spotlight during the annual conference of the GdR MASCOT-NUM (Stochastic Analysis Methods for Numerical Codes and Treatments), held from March 18 to 20 in Paris: two awards were presented and a plenary lecture was given.
Following the plenary lecture by Rodolphe Le Riche, two 3rd-year CIFRE doctoral students under his supervision, David Gaudrie (MSE/ PSA Group) and Adrien Spagnol (MSE/ Safran), were joint winners of the 1st prize for best oral presentation.
The awards were presented by Miguel Munoz Zuniga, a member of the organizing committee from IFPEN.
These two theses are registered within the LIMOS Laboratory: Laboratory of Informatics, Modeling and Optimization of Systems.
Their presentations were respectively titled: “Dimension reduction for the Bayesian optimization of shapes” (MSE/PSA Group) and “Bayesian optimization in effective dimensions via kernel-based sensitivity indices” (MSE/Safran).

“In Search of Time”
The work published under the direction of Nicole Aubert, sociologist and Professor Emeritus at ESCP Europe, received the award for the best book on the world of work, presented by Le Toit Citoyen and éditions érès.
Bernard Guy, research professor in Earth Sciences and Philosophy of Science (also known for his multidisciplinary work and reflections on space and time), contributed to this book which “explores hypermodernity by examining the generalized acceleration of society, largely driven by the use of new communication technologies” (…).
The award ceremony took place on March 21 in Paris.
