Driven by the launch of IMT’s National Center for Networks and Systems for Digital Transformation, the Henri Fayol Institute participates in several projects concerning training and research in the field of 5G and the metaverse.

Among the various projects, the “5G Metaverse” involves five schools of the Institut Mines-Télécom (IMT), including Mines Saint-Étienne (with the Henri Fayol Institute), and major industrial groups such as Airbus and Orange.

It aims to evaluate how the deployment of 5G can help establish the metaverse (a parallel and immersive digital universe in which one could evolve as in real life) and how its appropriate use can enable a company to address a specific need or issue.

Providing tailor-made expertise to companies

A collaborative hub has been specially formed to work on the subject at the Henri Fayol Institute. It brings together five lecturer-researchers and an equal number of post-doctoral researchers and engineers.

The team can rely on the complementary skills of its members and on the upcoming delivery of new 5G equipment integrated into the IT’M Factory, a technological platform that supports companies in their digital transformation, to test innovative devices.

As Frédéric Grimaud, a research professor, explains: “The objective is to provide tailor-made expertise to companies, small or large, that wish to evolve their production tools towards greater resilience, efficiency, and sustainability. This research is part of the DNA of the Henri Fayol Institute.

In addition to the 5G Metaverse project, the Henri Fayol Institute is involved in training and raising awareness of new digital tools.

It also integrates and benefits from resources derived from the Priority Research Programs and Equipment (PEPR) as part of the France 2030 plan, such as: NF-HiSec (methods and tools for securing future networks) and NF-FITNESS (development of networks capable of dynamically adapting to the needs of massive IoT).

What is the National Center for Networks and Systems for Digital Transformation?

It is a unique, wall-less, flexible, and reactive structure that intervenes at every stage of the innovation chain. It offers companies from various sectors, including core industries, privileged access to cutting-edge research and development, experimentation and validation platforms compliant with international standards, as well as a comprehensive range of services integrating research, innovation, technology transfer, and both initial and continuing education.
