For 2 days, the 7 European partners of the BoneFix consortium met at Mines Saint-Etienne. Numerous presentations on the progress of scientific work were on the programme, with rich and lively discussions.

The fourteen participants representing the 7 European partners of the BoneFix consortium met at the Centre for Biomedical and Healthcare Engineering (CIS) of Mines Saint-Étienne. They were welcomed by Vincent Augusto, director of the CIS, on September 30 and October 1, 2021. This was the first in-person meeting since the project began in 2020. It was highly appreciated by the participants thanks to the collaborative and social environment that can only be achieved face-to-face.
The intense and stimulating programme included numerous presentations on the progress of scientific work. It led to rich and lively discussions. During a practical workshop led by the KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden) team and organized by the School’s Biomaterials team, participants constructed fixation patches on fractured pig metacarpal bones. They thus put into practice the new innovative fixation method developed in the BoneFix project.
These days were a great success and concluded with a visit to the Antarctic exhibition at the CCSTI La Rotonde. The next Consortium meeting will be organized by the team from the University of Bergen in June 2022 in Norway.
The BoneFix Consortium brings together renowned experts from across Europe with relevant backgrounds in chemistry, materials science, bioengineering, cell biology, clinical evaluation, surgery, and innovation. BoneFix is a new adhesive-based bone fixation and restoration technology that aims to supersede metallic fixators and grafts as the gold standard for fracture fixation and reconstruction.
