The Regional Digital Campus in Charbonnière-les-Bains (69) has opened its doors and the DIWII platform, led by Mines Saint-Étienne, is now operational. The latest equipment has arrived on site. Furthermore, Orange has chosen us as partners to install an Orange 5G Lab to test 5G use cases for industrial purposes starting March 1st.

The DIWII (Digital Intelligence Way for Industry Institute) platform is now operational. Spanning nearly 800 square meters, it demonstrates on a full scale what an Industry of the Future SME looks like, including its industrial processes and support services.

Four demonstration areas allow for the testing of industrial concepts and solutions:

  • The 4.0 Flexible Workshop aims to represent a “smart factory” to experiment with robots, cobots, automated guided vehicles, and more.
  • The Connected Lean Workshop aims to illustrate operational excellence tools and concepts by integrating a digital lean approach. Through a manufacturing workshop for assembling personalized products, the goal is to show how companies can optimize their flows, and more broadly, their organizational efficiency and performance.
  • The Prototyping Workshop is a space for designing and creating functional prototype parts using a range of suitable machinery and software: 3D printers, scanners, laser cutting, milling, and CAD.
  • The Digital Chain and Data platform brings together a complete set of applications and software to cover all company functions and processes, from data acquisition on machines to the aggregation of this data for decision-making.

Opening of the Orange 5G Lab

“Deployed in only 9 cities in France and Europe, the Orange 5G Lab is designed to allow all companies to test new use cases made possible by 5G.

The “Orange 5G Lab” at the Regional Digital Campus will offer:

  • A space designed for working with experts to develop and implement new use cases, particularly those applied to industry.
  • A location equipped with 5G technology, providing dedicated equipment such as 5G terminals and SIM cards or virtual reality headsets.
  • A system for discovering 5G and its various uses, with experts present to provide the keys to understanding and decoding 5G.
  • Experts responsible for welcoming and supporting visitors, professionals, students, and researchers at the Campus in their exploration of the potential offered by 5G.”

5G applied to industry is a lever for corporate competitiveness and regional development. This motivated Orange’s choice to install its first regional 5G Lab at the Lyon-Charbonnières Campus. This lab will allow Mines Saint-Étienne and its partners to experiment with it via its DIWII platform.
