A fun and collaborative workshop was organized at Mines Saint-Étienne’s Saint-Étienne premises on Thursday, March 14, 2024. It took place during the festival dedicated to responsible digital technology.

About fifteen participants were trained and made aware of the environmental challenges of digital technology by Niloufare Sadr and Marie Thizy, two individuals from the institution’s Information Systems Department (ISD).

For three hours, the two groups formed first discussed the topic using cards arranged pertinently on a large sheet of white paper. A more creative moment was then dedicated to presenting the fresco and choosing a title. The workshop concluded with a sharing session during which everyone could give their point of view and discuss how they would evolve their practices towards greater sobriety.

This workshop was held as part of the Responsible Digital Festival organized by Mines Saint-Étienne from March 11 to 21, 2024. The event offered activities open to all: conferences, radio discussions, workshops for children, exhibitions… External interventions took place via video conference using tools with controlled environmental impact to remain consistent with the theme.

As a reminder, Mines Saint-Étienne is one of the first engineering schools to be awarded the “Responsible Digital Level 1” label, issued in June 2023 by the Responsible Digital Institute (INR).

A similar workshop was held on Thursday, March 21, at the Aix-Marseille-Provence Campus.

They said:

Éliot Doidy, 2nd-year ICM student: “This workshop is a continuation of the one dedicated to the climate fresco. It allowed me to deepen a subject I thought I knew well. In light of what was said, I will change my habits and donate the old mobile phones I needlessly kept in a drawer to associations. .”

Julie Blanc, Assistant at Mines Saint-Étienne: “The workshop is very interesting. I appreciated the discussions with other participants and the search for concrete solutions to reduce one’s digital footprint. In my own way, I try to be more sober in my daily practices. However, I still wonder about the future and the consequences of our constantly increasing usage. .”

Niloufare Sadr, IT specialist and internal trainer: “I try to help participants modify their habits without making them feel guilty and to make them understand the School’s approach to digital sobriety. Facilitating this workshop is a continuation of the training courses I have been delivering for twenty-four years at Mines Saint-Étienne.”
