Around ten students from the School took part in the 70th edition of this trail and road race held at night between Saint-Étienne and Lyon on Saturday, November 30.

They braved the night, the cold, and the elevation changes.

By the light of their headlamps, warmly dressed and motivated like elite athletes, Alexandre Mondini, Charles Lhopiteau, Tristan Lefebvre, and Clément Aubert completed the 82 km historic route in 9h23, 7h23, 8h15, and 11h18 respectively. Lucile Maret, also at the start, gave her best effort, but her adventure ended prematurely after 61 km (outside the time limit).

Under 5 Hours

Anna Brunet, Mathieu Goblet, Martin de Viry, and Titouan Linlaud competed in the SaintExpress, a “maratrail” format of 45 km with a more accessible profile. The quartet’s goals were ambitious, but precious minutes lost due to crowds on the course forced them to revise their expectations downward. In the end, strong performances nonetheless, with Anna, Mathieu, and Titouan finishing under the symbolic 5-hour mark.

The students in this 2024 edition trained with Virgile Morisset, an elite trail-running athlete. He finished in an impressive 4th place overall, which should help him secure sponsors for his future races.

Regardless of the results, all the students took immense pleasure in participating in this nationally renowned event.

There is no doubt that even more students will proudly represent Mines Saint-Étienne across the various routes next year.
