Médiane is a pedagogy school established by IMT, which takes place annually at the end of January.

It is an unmissable opportunity for the teaching staff of Institut Mines-Télécom to meet, exchange, and improve their skills in their profession in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. This year, the theme was “Motivating, being motivated, and finding meaning“.

The programme was structured in three parts:

  • Teaching today: changing one’s teaching approach, fostering autonomy in learning
  • Considering all students in one’s teaching
  • Teaching in today’s reality

Conferences, pedagogical workshops, practical and theoretical training, feedback sessions – all workshops are led by a teacher and a pedagogical advisor/engineer, and this year, 5 research-professors from Mines Saint-Etienne participated in the event:

  • Charlotte Dewitte, research-professor at the SPIN center, participated in several workshops that allowed her to work on the redesign project of her course.

I return from Médiane with a new way of seeing teaching, one that is both more fulfilling for students and more dynamic and challenging for professors. I learned how to integrate a course into the overall student journey, how to think about energizing a subject, how to incorporate technical evolution, particularly AI, into courses, and how to rethink the skills to be acquired. This gives me the desire and a concrete, applicable idea to modify a course. During the workshops, I was able to work on redesigning a course that I will teach next year. It’s a step-by-step process, taking into account student feedback, calendar constraints, the format of other concurrent courses, and alignment with the skills to be acquired. I return from Médiane motivated and more involved in my courses.

  • Asma Hasil, research-professor at the SPIN center, appreciated the diversity of workshops and the concrete cases presented.

As a new recruit this year, I left MEDIANE with practical tools and perspectives that I can apply to my teaching.
The diversity of workshop formats, ranging from workshops to targeted discussions in REX and QVE sessions, allowed me to discover IMT’s pedagogical priorities in a very comprehensive way.
I particularly appreciated the emphasis on concrete and transferable practices that my colleagues have already tested in their own classes.

  • Johan Chaniot, research-professor at the SPIN center, highlighted the conviviality of the exchanges; he participated in several workshops including “Adapting engineering training to tomorrow’s challenges.”

I return from Médiane with many new contacts (a student of a Télécom Paris colleague will soon be doing an M2 internship with us), new ideas, and motivation to teach.

  • Nathalie Douard, research-professor at CIS, praised the time taken to reflect on the meaning of the teaching profession; she summarizes these 3 days with 3 words: Inspiring, stimulating, rejuvenating.

I return from Médiane with a good dose of inspiration and quite a bit of energy. These three days of exchanges and practical application around pedagogy offer a unique space of freedom to express doubts and questions, to gain perspective together, and to share easily mobilizable methods and tools. Precious time to foster broader reflection on the meaning of our practices and ongoing transformations. A true breath of fresh air, both intellectually and humanly stimulating. To be consumed without moderation. .”

  • And Ahlem Baccouche, teaching and research officer at Institut Fayol

We thank the research-professors of Mines Saint-Etienne for their testimonials, which highlight the importance of stepping back from their profession to motivate, be motivated, and find meaning in it.
