Four alumni from Mines Saint-Étienne were present at COP25 from December 2 to 13 in Madrid as part of the “Climate Fresk” association: a return on experience with Léna Trutt, Marta Martinez Reyes, Josué Bulot, and Thibaut Germain, ICM E2014 and E2016.
COP 25 was intended to present the greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets of the various signatory states of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), in preparation for the upcoming COP26 in Glasgow.
Six Mines engineers (4 from Saint-Étienne, 2 from Alès) traveled to Madrid as volunteers for the Climate Fresk association, an organization that aims to raise public awareness of climate change issues and exponentially grow this awareness internationally.
“We went as citizens and inhabitants of our planet, curious to discover the local initiatives of each state present, in order to strengthen the links between the different actors fighting for the climate.”
In total, a group of 30 to 40 volunteers for the association, from various backgrounds, regions, and experiences: “we met at the beginning of December, daily challenging the slogan of this COP25: ‘Time For Action’.

“Despite the disappointing results of this COP 25 from the perspective of official stakeholders, this edition will remain a success for us: we were able to raise awareness among more than 1000 people about climate issues, train nearly 50 new facilitators in about ten different countries, to enable global and non-localized awareness.”
We were able to meet a large number of actors from the social summit for climate (an alternative summit created by civil society). We saw social connections being forged between individuals to move forward together and organize on a large scale for the climate.”
