Mines Saint-Étienne joins forces with more than 150 companies and some thirty training providers by signing the manifesto for responsible digital technology.

By connecting companies and training providers, Planet Tech’Care works to promote the reduction of the digital environmental footprint. It is to take part in this fight that Mines Saint-Étienne has signed this manifesto.
This manifesto is part of the school’s ongoing strategy for responsible and ecological digital technology. Indeed, it is working to increase the number of training courses dedicated to responsible and ecological digital technology. Since 2018, Mines Saint-Étienne has been providing its 1st-year Ingénieur Civil des Mines (ICM) students with a module on Green IT (sustainable computing). It also raises student awareness on this theme via the Digital Transformation Management Toolbox [a course module for 1st and 2nd year students based on 3 dimensions: digital transformation strategy in organizations, information systems, and marketing]. The implementation of these lessons is a request from students and graduates. They want to give meaning to their impact on climate change during their professional careers. Consequently, training competent engineers who are aware of the challenges of digital sobriety, regardless of their specialty, appears to be a necessity for our school.
In parallel with this expansion of the training offer to the issue of responsible digital technology, Mines Saint-Étienne’s commitment to Green IT brings together two strategic challenges: supporting companies in their digital transition, and mobilizing around issues of sustainable development and CSR. These strategies are currently reflected in the growth of research projects relating to Green IT. Some are submitted to the Fondation Crédit Agricole Loire-Haute-Loire, while others respond to the 2021 generic call for projects launched by the ANR [French National Research Agency]. Continuing in this direction, a strong collaboration has been built with Digital League [a cluster of digital industry companies in the AURA region]. The latter called upon researchers from the Henri Fayol Institute to jointly define the standards, metrics, and processes essential for evaluating the performance of organizations in terms of Green IT. This will contribute to the development of a Green IT label. This certification will be a concrete manifestation of responses to the increasing demands of companies wishing to take action on the subject.

“Presentation of Planet Tech’Care:
