Mines Saint-Étienne is proud to have held LPO “Refuge” status since May, thereby contributing to the biodiversity of our region.
With more than 1,000 members in the Loire, the LPO is based in Saint-Étienne and operates throughout the Loire department.
For several months, this association has been conducting a biodiversity inventory in our beautiful park at 158 cours Fauriel. Following this study, a report will soon be submitted to us, but we are already proud of our commitment.
Furthermore, in the latest issue of the newsletter, you will find a link to this excellent blog https://fauconfines.wordpress.com/ which describes, with great humor, poetry, and a wealth of scientific detail, the life of a family of peregrine falcons that spent the lockdown in a nesting box installed on a factory chimney in Châteauneuf, in the Gier valley—an area that, at first glance, seems closer to an industrial wasteland than an exceptional natural site.
The author is none other than one of our colleagues: Rodolphe Le Riche, a CNRS researcher in applied mathematics and a volunteer within the association. Unable to practice his favorite sports during the lockdown, he spent his free time creating this humorous yet scientific blog about biodiversity, demonstrating that there is no need to fly thousands of miles to observe the beauty of nature!
