The event was held for the first time on the Saint-Étienne campus on Friday, August 30, 2024. The programme included: informative presentations, participatory workshops, and conviviality.
The atmosphere was studious yet relaxed in the park of Mines Saint-Étienne’s historic site during the start-of-year event of the Lyon Saint-Étienne Engineering College.
After a welcome address by Jacques Fayolle, Director of Mines Saint-Étienne, and the introduction of the new General Delegate, Marion Delong, the guests delved into the core topics by presenting various projects in a “speed-dating” format.
Research, training programmes, international relations, and communication… about ten speakers successively took the floor to present their projects to the audience in three minutes.
A presentation of the College’s medium and long-term objectives was then given by the directors of the four schools.
Unity is strength
The afternoon was dedicated to discussions around six themes related to the College’s interactions with its stakeholders (academic partners, economic partners, public institutions, etc.) and its attractiveness.
Nine working groups, supervised by facilitators, were thus formed by mixing institutions to identify what works well in the schools and what could be supported by the Engineering College for the general interest.

A summary of these discussions allowed for the identification of future areas of work to accelerate its strategic and operational deployment.
And Pascal Ray, Director of École Centrale de Lyon, concluded: “From this day, I will remember the words co-construction, cooperation, and coordination. We must continue to do well as a group of four, especially in the field of tomorrow’s engineering and decarbonization, without forgetting to open up to others. .”
As a reminder, the Lyon Saint-Étienne Engineering College was created in November 2022. It brings together four major schools (École Centrale de Lyon, ENTPE, INSA Lyon, and Mines Saint-Étienne) united to address the challenges related to current and future major transitions: decarbonized industry and society, circular economy, and responsible digital society.
