This 2nd-year student in the Fusion program had the privilege of carrying the Olympic flame during its passage through Saint-Étienne on Saturday, June 22. A memorable experience for the 22-year-old aspiring engineer.

The rain did not dampen her enthusiasm or alter her smile.

On Saturday, June 22, shortly after 6 PM, Justine Montagne completed her relay under the admiring gaze of several students in Mines Saint-Étienne uniforms and onlookers drawn by the event.

Starting from Place du Peuple, Justine jogged to the neighboring Place Dorian. These few hundred meters covered with the torch in hand will remain etched in her memory: ” It was impressive and even a little intimidating. I was afraid of doing something wrong, of not passing the torch with the correct hand to the next relay runner, or simply of slipping on the wet ground due to the rain. In the end, everything went well. I will never forget this moment. I am aware of being privileged .”

Before circulating through the streets of the Saint-Étienne metropolitan area and lighting up the Geoffroy Guichard stadium at the end of the day, the Olympic flame had begun its journey through the Loire region in Roanne, then Charlieu, before passing through Montbrison and Feurs at midday, and making a detour through Saint-Chamond and Firminy.

8.2 km were ultimately covered by the flame during its route in Saint-Étienne.
