Mr Bruno Le Maire, Minister of the Economy, Finance and Recovery, the supervisory ministry of Institut Mines-Télécom, appointed Jacques Fayolle as Director of Mines Saint-Étienne by decree dated 23 March 2022. He will take up his duties as head of Mines Saint-Étienne from 1 May 2022 for a five-year term.

Together with the teams, we will further strengthen Mines Saint-Étienne within Institut Mines-Télécom and with our local partners, to find new momentum for development and growth around the health of the future, the industry of the future and the digital dimension, notably IoT.”

Jacques Fayolle prepared his PhD thesis in computer science at Jean Monnet University, defended in 1996, on the study of image-processing algorithms. He then joined Jean Monnet University as a Senior Lecturer and obtained his HDR (Habilitation to Supervise Research) in 2007. He was appointed Full Professor five years later. He was elected Director of Télécom Saint-Étienne in 2012, then re-elected in 2017, while supervising 10 PhD theses between 1999 and 2019.
Jacques Fayolle has also held numerous elected or national representative positions within the higher education and innovation ecosystems. From 2011, he served on the governing bodies of the CDEFI (Conference of Directors of French Engineering Schools) and twice served as acting president, in 2017 and 2019, before being elected president that same year, then re-elected in 2021.
