Alongside her activities as “science and society” project manager at Mines Saint-Étienne, the professional journalist leads the new “meaning and responsibility” mission entrusted by Jacques Fayolle, director of the school.
1. What does this new mission consist of and what is its objective?
“The idea is to offer opportunities for reflection and discussion around the major questions that run through the school’s main missions or more personal projects. For example: What will be the responsibilities of tomorrow’s engineers and more broadly of Mines Saint-Étienne? On the students’ side, it will be about seeing how they can become enhanced students and actors in the major current and future transitions. I will also question faculty researchers to find out how they can contribute to building a more sustainable, responsible, and durable world. The ultimate objective is to better define the engineer’s responsibility in 2030 and the meaning the school must give to its education and research activities. .”
2. What will your role be?
“I will be the person who knocks on the door to encourage this time for active pause. I will first try to formalize shared issues or challenges based on a questionnaire. I will then attempt to organize collective discussion sessions, inter- or intra-center, to talk about them freely and constructively. These sharing moments may be enhanced by contributions from people outside the institution to shed light on a specific theme. I am taking a step-by-step approach. I am moving forward one step at a time. .”

3. How will the mission be deployed?
“I will meet with the directors of the centers at our three sites (Saint-Étienne, Gardanne, and Charbonnières-les-Bains), then I will try to identify people who are interested and available to answer questions. Next will come the time to review the collected material to extract a roadmap that will lead to a first collective action next fall. I do have some ideas in mind, but I prefer to wait for feedback from the discussions to set a relevant and unifying objective for this event. Together, we will step back from the frantic pace of the world. “
