The Centre for Biomedical and Healthcare Engineering (CIS) at the School hosted an international workshop last December. It was organized jointly with Jean Monnet University and Vilnius University (Lithuania). It addressed recent advances in biomathematics and mathematical modeling in cardiovascular medicine.
The international workshop “Biomathematics and Mechanics in Cardiovascular Medicine” was held on December 7, 2022, at the Centre for Biomedical and Healthcare Engineering at Mines Saint-Etienne. It was co-organized by Jean Monnet University, Vilnius University (Lithuania), the Centre for Biomedical and Healthcare Engineering at Mines Saint-Etienne, the MODMAD federation (Mathematical Modeling and Decision Support), the Camille Jordan Institute, and UMR SAINBIOSE. This workshop continues a series of conferences organized by the MODMAD federation each year on multi-scale methods and applications in engineering and biology. Chaired by Stéphane Avril from Mines Saint-Etienne and Grigory Panasenko from Jean Monnet University and Vilnius University, it brought together a dozen recognized specialists. They came from 10 different countries (France, Germany, Portugal, Spain, USA, Croatia, Russia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, and Italy), as well as around twenty young researchers and students. It provided an opportunity to review recent advances in biomathematics and mathematical modeling in cardiovascular medicine. This includes microscopic and macroscopic descriptions of blood circulation, numerical simulations of blood flow, and modeling of the mechanical properties of biological tissues.
List of speakers: A. Aliseda (USA), S. Avril (France), C. Bertoglio (Netherlands), B. Besighini (Italy), O. Flores (Spain), K. Linka (Germany), Y. Mameri (France), G. Panasenko (France and Lithuania), K. Pileckas (Lithuania), Yu. Vassilevskii (Russia), J. Xavier (Portugal), E. Marusic-Paloka (Croatia), I. Pazanin (Croatia).
