For the first time in the Institution’s history, our School joins the prestigious Times Higher Education World University Ranking (THE) in the top 500 world universities (ranked 401-500): the ranking highlights Mines Saint-Étienne’s international influence and excellence in partnership research.

Published by Times Higher Education, an authoritative British monthly in the academic world, this annual ranking has just placed 1396 universities based on 5 criteria: teaching, research, citations of publications, industry income, and international outlook.

Globally, Mines Saint-Étienne ranks 287th for its international outlook, 303rd for the quality of its education, and 446th for the impact of its research on the scientific community.

In France, Mines Saint-Étienne is ranked 5th among engineering schools and 14th among French institutions out of the 38 ranked by THE. The School also secures the 1st place among engineering schools in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Sud regions.

The THE ranking highlights the excellence of Mines Saint-Étienne’s research work.

It underscores the quality of partnerships between the institution and either international research laboratories or companies. Moreover, 14% of publications by the School’s research faculty are co-authored with industrial partners, three times more than the French average (5.4%). The proportion of publications co-authored with foreign researchers stands at 44%.

“This is a significant achievement and a source of pride. This recognition marks the first stage of our ambition to be included in the top international rankings by 2022. We will apply for THE Impact, QS in 2020, and finally the Shanghai thematic rankings the following year.”
Pascal Ray, Director

This recognition of international openness is the result of work carried out by all staff members of the School, who are sincerely thanked for their commitment to these areas: internationalization of research activities, development of English-taught programs to strengthen inbound mobility, and encouragement of outbound mobility for semesters or double degrees.

This rich news fuels the School’s ambition to “become a technological university within the framework of IMT.”
