From February 21 to 23, 2024, students from the ISMIN programme at Mines Saint-Étienne and their counterparts from Aix-Marseille Université devised innovative systems for augmented sports experiences.

Brains were buzzing for 72 hours.

In a start-up mode, nearly 90 students worked for three days in small groups on innovative projects dedicated to augmented sports practices.

Participants used their brainpower, electronic kits, glue guns, cardboard, string, and, of course, the equipment park of the ID-Fab technological platform (3D printer, thermoformer, laser cutter) to prototype their creations.

Professionals from the corporate world even stepped in as coaches, mentors, and experts to guide them through the various stages of the creative process, enabling them to present a successful project to the jury composed of the School’s partners (IBM, Thales, Eviden, the Impulse incubator, Pays d’Aix Développement, the Sud Region, the Departmental Council, the Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropolis, the main funder of this programme, and the city of Gardanne).

Two teams distinguished themselves for the relevance and quality of their work:

  • 1st place: Team 1 (Lisa Djebbari, Virgile Bouchon, Athénaïs Syryn, Romain Sengeissen, Rémy Demonaz, and Cyprien Jorant). EXPLI SPORT: an AI that explains the rules of a sport (e-sport or traditional sport) in real-time.
  • Jury’s Favorite / Public Vote: Team 9 (Maylis Boucenna, Ismael Banite, Abderrahmane El Haouzi, Clément Dhalluin, Augustin Famy, and Faiz Mohammad). VIMOSPHERE: a connected device based on ultrasound to support visually impaired swimmers in their sport and performance development.

INNOV’ACTIONS is a recurring “créathlon” conceived by Mines Saint-Étienne to encourage
aspiring engineers to develop their soft skills, which are essential for preparing their professional future. This challenge takes place in the 3rd and final year of their ISMIN (Microelectronic and Computer Systems Engineer) programme.

This edition was supported by the Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropolis, labeled PÉPITE
Provence. It was organized in partnership with the Faculty of Economics and Management of Aix-Marseille
Université.
